Dear Members,
The FBI, state attorneys general and other agencies are alerting Americans that phone calls, texts or emails asking for personal or financial information to get the federal stimulus payment are not legit.
Do not give out your Social Security Number, Bank Account Number, PayPal Account Information, or anything else if someone claims such information is essential to sign you up for a stimulus check relating to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Treasury Department advises: "If you receive calls, emails, or other communications claiming to be from the Treasury Department and offering COVID-19 related grants or stimulus payments in exchange for personal financial information, or an advance fee, or charge of any kind, including the purchase of gift cards, please do not respond.
Keep an eye out for scams using phishing emails or text messages to get you to share valuable personal information. Scammers use your information to steal your money, your identity, or both. If you get an email or text with a suspicious link, DO NOT CLICK ON IT. They are attempting to get access to your computer or network to install ransomware or other programs that can lock you out of your data. Phishing emails or text messages often use familiar company names or pretend to be someone you know.
If you think a scammer has contacted you, file a complaint with the FBI and/or the Federal Trade Commission (FCC) immediately.
